Success for Sean
It had been over a year since Sean had last worked when he was connected with Sureway’s Disability Employment Services (DES) team in Daw Park, SA.
Sean was desperate to get back into employment. With a few obstacles to overcome, Sean’s Employment Consultant Karen said that he showed great dedication.
“Sean jumped through hoops to be able to keep his MR Truck Licence and get a medical clearance to return to work – Goal 1 achieved!” she said.
The next goal was the big one – to find ongoing work. Karen said that the process was a team effort.
“Together we worked hard writing applications. I was also able to connect him with a few employers that I knew he would be suited to.”
Success was not too far away, and Sean gained a job. Unfortunately, the work was not ongoing, though Karen reminded Sean that he was still closer to his goal than he was yesterday.
“Instead of thinking negatively, Sean and I recommenced our job searching. We focused on not letting the no’s affect him.” she said.
“Sean called me one day to say that he received a call back for an interview!”.
“Beforehand, I pumped him up with some encouragement and…. next goal achieved! He got the job!”
Sean has been working with this employer for a few weeks now and is absolutely loving the job.
For others looking to follow in Sean’s foot steps, Karen said that persistence and hard work pays off.
“I love hearing how happy Sean is now that he is working and doing something he loves.” she said.
