No distance too far for Terrence
South Australian resident Terrence moved from Port Pirie to Adelaide in search of better job opportunities.
Disability Employment Services (DES) Consultant Karen said that Terrence was committed to finding work.
“I met Terrence a few months ago and I could tell that he genuinely wanted to find employment and start a new life here in Adelaide.” She said.
With other life factors at play, it wasn’t long before Terrence had to move back to Port Pirie, around 250kms away.
Despite this, Karen said that she continued to seek opportunities for Terrence in Adelaide.
“We continued to speak with employers on his behalf and he would send job applications.”
“I received an excited call from Terrence one day – He had secured full time employment! I couldn’t have been more excited to find out the great news!”
“Changing lives is a passion of mine and to hear the excitement in his voice made me smile.”
Still based in Port Pirie, Terrence’s new position as a Truck Driver is around an hour drive each way from home. Terrence spends his day driving so he says that he doesn’t see the commute time as a barrier. He is happy to be employed and has a new positive outlook on life.
Karen said that Terrence’s new employer has been excellent.
“They are very supportive, and they love working with Terrence.”
