David’s positive step into employment
Career Transition Assistance (CTA) client David is completing the last activities in his course this month and will be walking straight into employment with a fresh take on life. About David’s journey, Broken Hill CTA Facilitator Libby said:
“When David commenced the program in February, he was quite negative and down on himself. Prior to this, he had been for several interviews without success.
I started gently with him as I know how it feels to doubt yourself when you are unemployed.
I just started with little bits to change his negativity to positive thinking, and the best opportunity I had was when he wrote a cover letter which started out okay but carried a negative tone.
I pointed the out to David and from there he really worked on changing his attitude.
Yesterday he went for a job interview, today he got the job and tomorrow he starts work on a casual basis. This may progress to permanent part-time employment down the track.
David told me that after I pointed out the negativity on his cover letter, he spent the entire weekend thinking about it and how he would go about readjusting his thinking.
David is on the Spectrum, so he says it takes him a bit of time for his brain to process things but, he thanks me profusely for changing his way of thinking of showing him how to ditch the negativity and learn to live with positivity.
He is so happy now, it’s wonderful and his new employer is even wanting to train him up to become a manager – how awesome is that!”
