A little bit of support makes the difference
Elizabeth resident Peter has been able to overcome recent health challenges to keep his employment on track, with a little support from his local Sureway team.
Many years ago, Peter was involved in a serious car accident and as a result was diagnosed with slight brain damage. He is supported in his employment at Air Filtration, where he has worked for the past 14 years, by our Disability Employment Services (DES) team.
Sadly, Peter’s boss passed away suddenly in April 2020 which effected Peter deeply.
The company continued to trade with the support of the existing staff to keep some normality and subsequently the business was taken over by family.
Due to Peter’s condition the changes to his normal daily routine caused him to become agitated and frustrated about the changes, which was out of character for him in the workplace that he loved so much.
As things seemed to be deteriorating, Peter’s Sureway team supported him with an intervention. Together they worked through the things that peter was finding frustrating and were also able to help him understand the possible consequences of his actions in the workplace.
They also identified that Peter could benefit from returning to see his doctor to review his medication. Peter agreed this was a good idea and followed through with great results.
Peter was able to return to work with a much better outlook on the changes.
About the outcome, Peter’s Consultant said:
“We are so thrilled with the positive outcome for Peter who is now so happy in his role. His medication is monitored and his attitude and dedication is outstanding.”
“I now see Peter with a huge smile on his face every time I visit him, and he is even planning a holiday to Queensland to visit his daughter and her family.”
Sureway and Air Filtration are both extremely delighted to see the return of a happy employee. Peter’s perseverance has enabled him to maintain his long years of service and avoided the loss of employment. Well done Peter!
