Luke resets his career path
Forbes local Luke is 17 years old and left school before finishing Year 12. He has been in and out of trouble, has had no steady path through school or work and was lacking guidance through life.
Luke suffers from health issues that need daily monitoring and have hindered him from pursuing work in the past. Despite these tough circumstances, Luke recently completed a voluntary placement with the Forbes
Golf Club and built a great relationship with the manager.
Recognising his capability and his willingness to learn, the Club wanted to offer Luke a paid opportunity. Following the COVID-19 restrictions they also recognised that they needed some
support to make it work.
Sureway were able to assist with:
- A Youth Bonus Wage Subsidy to assist the Club with wage costs
- Funding for Luke’s Chemical Handling accreditation required for his role
- Protective work clothing suitable for his duties and roster
- Mentoring and check-ins for Luke and the team at the Golf Club.
The Sureway team also created a career pathway plan with Luke. It includes assisting him to gain his forklift license and signing up to an Apprenticeship via the Apprenticeship Centre to undertake a Certificate III in Turf Management.
Luke has shown real commitment to the job. He is turning up at 7am every morning, taking instruction well and learning to operate a range of machinery.
